Chemist, co-discoverer of saccharin. Ira Remsen was a chemist and professor of chemistry at The Johns Hopkins University. He was born in New York City, Feb. 10, 1846. In accordance with his father's wishes, Remsen studied medicine, receiving the M.D. in 1867.
